India Independence..The other side
First of all Happy Independence Day to all.. Well its amazing its been 60 odd years. Things have changed drastically for us Indians. Indians, its part of our identities and I am proud of it. But when I see what all’s happening around us, I keep wondering what has this independence done for us, we were fighting then, we are fighting today. Yes I am talking about numerous battles that we fight everyday- Hindu-Muslim, Common people-The system, Terrorism-Internal threats.
Hindu-Muslim: We are still fighting, I told you didn’t I?? Atleast then, we were fighting together but now we are fighting with each other. I don’t want this blog to be a preaching to finish up the divide between two faiths, coz it has been tried and failed miserably. I am Muslim, proud to be one. My faith is way different then the beliefs of Hinduism, but I have no problems with it. It surprises me that even today that when we as grown ups and educated individuals I face a weird situation which is different for a Hindu and Muslim.
Hindu: Every time a person from this faith thinks about Muslims, all they remember is partition- those trains full of dead and raped and the terrorism.
Muslim: Everytime a person from this faith think about Hindu, all they remember is partition- those trains full of dead and raped and riots (Like the one in Gujarat)
Lemme try and express my point of view on this.
Partition: Well all of us shouldn’t forget that this is common sore point for all of us. Its really not about Hindu or Muslim. It happened with everyone. And to tell you truly I really don’t think we can ever find out the initiator of this massacre whether he was a Muslim or Hindu. Also would it really matter that who was it?? What are you gonna do if you find out?? The truth is we can’t blame any single faith for it, or atleast I think that. It was absence of humanity and nothing else. If you look closer, it wasn’t actually faith related I guess. It was entirely political. Just think people, we are much more educated and liberal in our views but its not so tough for a small political issue or a political party to take advantage of us on basis of faith, wouldn’t that be easier then. Dint we all live happily together before partition? Why was there need of a new country on basis of religion?? I guess politically it was good for some people. But I am not there to discuss that, that’s just a view to justify my argument. One of my friends told me about stories of partition and how it had made some bitter impressions about the other faith which would last forever. Well let’s ask someone from the other side: Pakistan, didn’t it leave bitter memories about the other faith?? I am sure it did. If you noticed I didn’t take any faith’s name in this bitter memory part coz really it didn’t matter. I feel that faith didn’t tell a Muslim to kill a Hindu coz they were from different faith and faith didn’t tell a Hindu to kill a Muslim but the fact remains that we had train full of dead people from both the sides and whose loss was that??I ask you, was that a Hindu loss or a Muslim loss. I don’t think we can quantify it in categories of faith or country. It was a collective loss of humanity and to our shame it was a profit of politics. They played games then, they play it now and we play with them. Even today a person from one faith rejects positives from the other faith or doesn’t support the initiatives of a different faith without actually asking how does it hurt my faith. I mean why me being a Muslim want to destroy a temple or not support construction of one, does it harm or makes the place where I pray impure?? No it doesn’t. Why a person from Hindu faith reject the idea of development, provision of civic services coz a Muslim organization is a part of it. That is ridiculous, get into depth of it, find out about it, ask question to yourself that how does it make me anti to my faith. I am sure most of issues that we are dealing with today aren’t faith oriented. They are against system and political and the system or politics has no religion, no relations.
Terrorism: Let me try and clear the air on this. I told you, I am a Muslim and there is a group in my faith which is playing a bloody battle which they actually call is to defend our faith. Let me tell you all and to them also, no faith is so small or weak that it needs defense of a group of people and certainly not by killing anyone. Islam doesn’t preach killing, no faith does. Just give it a thought a what are all religions? a way to attain salvation, a way for maintaining your belief in higher power, a way to maintain humanity. How can a faith which has so many purposes preach killing?? It defies all logic. I don’t want defend Islam, it doesn’t need my defense neither any faith does. We have books in every faith which explains basis of each and every faith, I suggest we should read it and then decide. My purpose is to clarify that it again isn’t faith related, but political. There are two kinds of people in this: One is the common man who suffered due to some person from the other faith, and the other one is the smarter one who knows how to use emotions of that common man for his profit. There is not question of faith here. Faith is just an excuse. It happened at the time of partition, it happened at the time of Mumbai riots, it happened at the time of Gujarat riots and it happened at the time of all the blasts that occur and it happens everyday. All said and done I advocate that there is only one way to deal with it- Aggressive way, just finish it off. But there should be a different platform for that. There is bigger picture then we can really imagine in terrorism and riots. If it were about faith why would there is terrorism in J&K??It coz of politics, not just internal but also external. If you want to fight it then fight the right cause, If you want to reject then reject the right thing, reject something after you know the truth.
This was my first effort into writing something. It wasn’t an effort to support any faith or anything. This is an effort to introduce you all to a different side, a side which may might not be true for you but atleast it might make us think, ask questions and may be someday solve our problem coz religion/faith was never a problem, it just a way to keep going on the right path…. Then we might celebrate our true independence!!
Till then Happy Independence Day..
